Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and Megilla Co. ("Megilla," "we," "us"), a Delaware corporation based in Los Angeles, California. By using megilla.com, app.megilla.com, or our text messages, you agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy.
The service
A Megilla gift lets a storyteller answer guided interview questions on video from their own phone. Family and friends can contribute questions. Megilla then produces an edited, captioned documentary film. Megilla is currently in a private, invite-only beta, and features may change.
Who can use Megilla
You must be 18 or older to buy a gift, create an account, or provide a phone number. Children may appear in recordings only when a parent or legal guardian records and submits them from the parent's own device.
You invite storytellers and contributors yourself, by sharing their private gift link from your own phone. Megilla texts them only if they choose to receive texts on their gift page.
Your content
You and your family own your recordings, answers, and finished film. You give Megilla permission to store, process, transcribe, edit, and deliver your content only to provide the service to your family. You confirm you have permission from everyone who appears in your recordings.
We will not use your recordings in advertising or marketing without your separate written permission.
Purchases, refunds, and gift validity
Refunds: you may request a full refund within 30 days of purchase if the storyteller has not started recording.
Gift validity: a gift must be started within 6 months of purchase. We will extend this once on request. A gift may be transferred to a different storyteller before recording begins.
Revisions: each film includes one round of revisions, such as trimming, reordering, music changes, and caption fixes. Revisions do not include re-recording or adding new material.
What's included: each gift's included features, film length, and delivery timing are described at the time of purchase.
Text messaging terms
Program: Megilla gift notifications, including sign-in links, question reminders, progress updates, and notice that your film is ready.
Frequency: message frequency may vary.
Cost: message and data rates may apply.
Opt out: reply STOP to any message. You will receive one confirmation and no further messages.
Help: reply HELP or email help@megilla.com.
Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Privacy: no mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. See our Privacy Policy and Text Messaging page.
Acceptable use
Do not upload content that is unlawful, harmful, or that you do not have the right to share. Do not misuse, disrupt, or try to gain unauthorized access to the service.
Film storage
You can download your finished film to keep. We stream it on your private page for at least 12 months; after that we may move it to secure archive storage and restore it on request.
Beta disclaimer
The service is provided "as is" during the beta. We work hard to keep it reliable but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Megilla is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the gift involved.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California.
Changes
We may update these terms and will post the new version here with a new date. Continued use after an update means you accept the changes.
